Meydenbauer Bay Park Expansion Update: What’s Next

The City of Bellevue is moving forward with Stage 2 of the Meydenbauer Bay Park expansion project, with construction currently expected to begin in late 2029.

According to a representative from the city’s Parks & Community Services department, the project continues to proceed smoothly and remains on schedule. The city is currently conducting a site survey using computer modeling to study site grades and transitions.

The design and permitting phase is expected to take approximately three years before construction begins.

As part of Stage 2, the apartment buildings located at the corner of Main Street and 100th Avenue NE will be removed. This will open a direct connection between downtown Bellevue and Meydenbauer Bay Park.

Additionally, Phase 2 includes several infrastructure and access improvements. Planned elements include intersection and park frontage upgrades at 100th Avenue NE and Main Street, the creation of a new gateway plaza, parking and ADA access improvements along 100th Avenue NE, and an interim shoreline pedestrian connection linking the new development to the existing park at the marina.

City officials said parking solutions for the park are still being evaluated.

The project follows a unanimous vote by the Bellevue City Council on June 4, 2025, to advance the expansion into the architectural and engineering design phase.

At that time, the city confirmed additional features of the expansion, including expanded parking in the gateway and east parcel areas, construction of a gently sloped elevated Canopy Walk, and a temporary pedestrian trail connecting the gateway area to the current park.

Councilmembers also outlined key priorities for the project, including minimizing parking disruptions during construction, preserving views of the bay, improving wayfinding signage, ensuring universal accessibility, planning for emergency access and safety, carefully tracking project costs and budget, and continuing community engagement throughout the process.

The current expansion follows Phase 1 of the redevelopment, completed in 2019, which added a new pier, expanded beach access, a play area, and a kayak launch.
