A Bellevue native is representing the United States on the international stage this winter.
Eunice Lee, who has lived in Bellevue since age six and is a graduate of Newport High School, is competing with Team USA in the women’s 3,000-meter speed skating relay at the Olympic Winter Games.
Before focusing on speed skating, Lee practiced rhythmic gymnastics and figure skating while living in the Republic of Korea. After moving with her family to the United States of America at age six, she transitioned into speed skating. Lee has previously shared that she first began sports as a child to improve coordination and strength.
Lee made history in 2022 as the youngest speed skater ever named to the U.S. Olympic team for the Beijing Winter Games at age 17, where she was involved with the relay team as an alternate but did not officially compete. Now 21, Lee continues to build an international résumé, earning a silver medal in the women’s 3,000-meter relay at the World Short Track Championships in 2024 and a bronze medal in the same event at the Four Continents Short Track Championships in 2023.
After returning from injury, Lee also helped Team USA qualify a relay team for the Milano Cortina Olympic cycle, securing the country’s spot in the event.
The women’s 3,000-meter relay finals are scheduled for Wednesday, February 18, with Final B at 11:50 a.m. PT and Final A at 11:59 a.m. PT. The races will stream on Peacock.
Off the ice, Lee is a student at Duke University, where she is studying chemistry and biology on a pre-med track.
