Seldens Designer Home Furnishings, a fourth-generation local retailer, is relocating its presence in Bellevue after acquiring longtime home furnishings store Schoenfeld Interiors.

The change comes as Bob Schoenfeld retires after more than 30 years of running his showroom on Northup Way.

Starting in mid-May, Seldens will host a Schoenfeld Interiors Retirement Sale at the current Schoenfeld location, 11555 Northup Way. The sale will run through July and feature major discounts on high-end furniture.

Seldens officially took over the lease and inventory at the Northup Way showroom on May 1. After the summer sale, the space will be updated and reopened in September as the new Seldens Bellevue showroom.

Both companies are well-known in Washington’s furniture scene. Schoenfeld’s history in the industry goes back to 1865, while Seldens was founded in Tacoma in 1940. The connection is personal, too — Seldens founder Syd Selden got his start working in a Schoenfeld family store.

Seldens plans to close its current Bellevue showroom on Main Street later this summer, with a moving sale scheduled for August. The new location will offer better visibility, easier parking, and a more comfortable shopping experience.

The furniture store will continue to provide in-home design help and personalized service, and plans to keep working with some of Schoenfeld’s designers. The company will also add select brands from the Schoenfeld collection to its own lineup.

“We’re proud to carry forward the great work Bob and his team have done here in Bellevue,” said General Manager Jake Cross, a fourth-generation member of the Selden family. “We share the same values when it comes to helping clients create beautiful homes.”

The transition is designed to be smooth for both Schoenfeld and Seldens customers. Seldens will handle remaining Schoenfeld orders and continue to offer the same customizable furniture options the company is known for.
