Now through Sunday, February 6th, live wire light rail vehicle testing will be occurring on the East Link light rail tracks. It will allow crews to ensure that the new line will be ready for riders.

According to Sound Transit, trains will be moving up to 35mph on the tracks between the Bellevue Downtown, Wilburton, and Spring District stations. Crews will be conducting this work overnight, between the hours of 9pm and 5am.

The trains will be moving fast and can appear quickly. Sound Transit is reminding everyone to stay off the tracks at all times. They also urge people to stay away from the track switches that are used to change train directions.

We reported in November 2021 that Sound Transit had begun evaluating trains on the light rail tracks in Bellevue. Although they were not used for passengers, crews were evaluating controls, safety and signal systems, and communications.

Sound Transit is still estimating 2023 when trains can carry passengers for revenue service.
